In a nod to the ever-evolving landscape of design, Post Industrial Crafts takes on the ambitious task of reimagining the renowned Thonet Chair No. 233, this time employing large-scale robotic 3D printing as the primary manufacturing technique. Through this transformative process, the original design is entirely reconceptualized to leverage the possibilities offered by 3D printing, including heat bending and assembly.

While the iconic silhouette of the chair continues to inspire the design, the manufacturing process and the distinct characteristics of large-scale additive manufacturing give birth to an entirely new aesthetic and structural language. Enter Thonet 4.0, a chair crafted entirely from recycled materials and brought to life through 3D printing. Even the caning of the seat undergoes a complete rethink, as it is coded into a new solution using the same process, ensuring the chair remains mono-material and fully recyclable.
